James Grunke
Project Director

Since joining NCDS, James Grunke has managed successful engagements in Cody, WY; Modesto, CA; Great Falls, MT, and Tacoma, WA. He provides clients a substantial breadth and depth of economic development experience gained during nearly 15 years working in economic development and chamber of commerce management. James played an integral role in NCDS’ campaign for the Boise Valley Economic Partnership (BVEP) while serving as Manager of Economic Development Policy for that organization, as staff liaison working with NCDS on the highly successful Valley Initiative for Prosperity. The campaign raised $5 million to market the Boise, Idaho area. In addition, James managed all entrepreneur and venture capital efforts, and has attracted millions of dollars in capital investment into the state of Idaho.

James has experience in working with both non-profit and local government economic development organizations. In James’ view, his most successful and rewarding work has been working to develop the climate for successful entrepreneurship activities and building communities.

As a life long resident of Idaho, James has lived in both urban and rural settings, and has embraced the can-do spirit of the West. He spent the majority of his professional life working in the public policy and economic development arenas and has developed strong relationships with government officials and business leaders throughout the western U.S. James learned that the successful ingredient for economic development is the creation of wealth that leads to economic expansion and job creation.

James attended the University of Idaho and received his Master’s degree in Public Affairs from Boise State University. James has served on many boards and civic groups, and his passion is spending time with his family. James and his wife, Jenny, have three daughters, and live in Boise, Idaho. They are avid tennis, golf and outdoor recreation enthusiasts, and enjoy any activities they can do together.
